BALLET PHOTO SHOOT

Before ballet today I took a few quick photos, it was both trying and entertaining!

 This was the entertaining part.

And a bow to finish.

I had to make these super easy leg warmers. It's still cold out and it's easier to just wear these then have to put on and take off pants.

CURLS

It was Aubrey's first Primary activity on Saturday so I curled her hair (also practicing for curling mine). They played Choose the Right instead of Price is Right and Aubrey had a chance to "come on down" and go up on the stage to answer a question. She was pretty cute (I didn't get a photo) as she tried to answer the question.

DRESSING UP

Update: We got the photo that the photographer at the Gala took of us:

This weekend was Jared's work "Christmas" party. As I was painting my toenails, Aubrey insisted in hers being done too and chose pink.

Above is an ice bar and a scary stilt walker.
I've had a busy week trying to find something to wear. The theme was casino, so I had to find something sparkly. I couldn't find a sequin jacket etc. so I settled on sparkly shoes instead.
I love Ross. I found this black dress ($15) and shrug ($8).

From Down East Basics I found this pretty ring and some earrings.

Here are our free photo booth photos.
We had the event photographer take a photo of us too, so we'll wait and see how that turned out!

FIRST DAY OF BALLET

It was Aubrey's first ballet class today and she loved it. I was a bit worried that she would be clingy and not let me leave her, but she did great. She was a bit shy at first and took a few minutes to warm up and get moving. There were two windows in the double doors to the room so a few of us peeked through and watched for a bit until the teacher asked us to wait down the hallway. I guess it was distracting the kids!
I was able to watch a little before that happened and it was cute to watch all the little girls in their outfits dancing around. They all sat in a big circle and took turns dancing around the outside of everyone then into the middle where there was a little platform for them to stand and pose a ballet stance and then the rest of the girls pretend to take a photo of them in their pose. It was so cute and I was once again worried that Aubrey would be too shy and need some coaxing but she did it no problem and her pose was very graceful. I wasn't sure if we were allowed to take photos or not, so I only got these two before class started. I'm hoping that I'll be able to get some photos and video in the future!

Newborn sets

This past week while being snowed in, I managed to get some crocheting done. I made this puppy and bunny set from photos I found online. I think they turned out pretty well (not quite as cute as the originals). I can't wait to try them out! Now I need some newborns to take photos of!

There's a little brown tail on the back of the puppy diaper covers.

I just need to make a white pom pom tail for the back of these diaper covers.

Pillows

I found the idea (on Pinterest of course) here and the DIY for it here.
I liked the idea and I already had 2 yellow pillow cases I was using on my couch (they are a lot brighter then shown in these photos). I also had picked up a new package of letter stencils at the thrift shop for $0.99 a while ago and all that was needed was a sharpie for fabric which I picked up at staples. It was a marker for labeling clothes, so is washable. It kind of has a potato sack stencil feel to it, which is also forgiving! That little pack of cardboard stencils I found has been so useful - I used the numbers for a template on my advent stockings, for these pillows and I plan to use it on some new burlap stockings I'd like to make before next Christmas (If Jared let's me get away with burlap - he says it's not soft and comfy. Who knew a stocking had to be!). Anyway, I also want to make a growth chart for Aubrey out of jute webbing found here.

More snow

One of the two stair cases up to our front door.

At the top by our front door.

This is looking out from our front door, we're almost blocked in by the snow on the bushes.
I'm stuck at home with a 3 year old is constantly making a mess right after I clean things up, so why bother cleaning?? And Jared is stuck at work for probably the 2nd night in a row. He bussed in on Wednesday afternoon. It took him an hour wait before he could find a bus (not on a normal route) and there aren't any buses running when he's off work so he stayed there over night. It was a good thing as he needed to start work today at 10am because other staff couldn't get into work and I'm sure the same will be for tomorrow. At least Jared got groceries on Tuesday and I made an Ikea run to get some boxes. Now I have no excuse not to organize my crafts and bedroom
Today I cleaned my bedroom (aka storage room) and the crafts are organized. Its also been a good time to do a bunch of crocheting projects I've been wanting to make for photography props!

Snow Day

Like so many other areas, we got a dump of snow last night so we had to take a little bit of time to play in it while Jared shoveled the driveway.

making snow angels. It was snowing so she had to close her eyes.

 Helping dad shovel the driveway

Her tiny snowman - looks kinda like the grinch.

She stared at the snow in her hand for a while. I asked her if she wanted to eat it and right away she said YES!! I told her she could eat it if it wasn't brown or yellow. Only white. She thought it was great.

photography props

I made some new birthday photo props last week for a birthday shoot for a little boy who turned 1. You can see his photos here.
I found this birthday party hat pattern online and made a matching diaper cover.

I think it turned out pretty cute. I also made a little birthday cake for him to eat.
Which meant there was enough batter left over to make another little cake for us.
I have discovered that my pyrex glass cylinder dishes make great mini cake dishes. I could even make a mini 3-tiered cake with them as I have a graduated set of them. I spray them with vegetable spray, fill half way with batter and they pop right out without sticking and almost evenly flat with a nice rounded edge on the top. I'm never using my non-stick metal pans again!

Cousins

On our way back home from Victoria/Duncan we stayed over for one night at Andrew & Janelle's place in North Vancouver. I was able to take some maternity photos for Janelle and was also able to take a few photos of Aubrey and her cousin Kaylen (Brylee wasn't so cooperative).

Grandma came to visit!

We were lucky to have Grandma Wood come visit us for a night. She had come to Vancouver from Halifax by way of Castlegar for Christmas. We convinced her to take the bus down to Seattle for a quick visit. We went to Pike Place Market,

Time to kill

Aubrey came down with a cold the day before we left to Victoria. Yesterday she slept throughout the day so I stayed home with her last night so Jared could go out a visit some friends and then he and some friends came back to where we are staying for the count down. I took this opportunity to watch a movie and make this hat for Aubrey. I was looking online at them the other day and she asked me to make her one. I thought if she had one she picked out that she would actually wear it!
