Singed felt clips

I made some singed felt flowers and it turned the lighter blue edges orange so it kinda looks like denim.

365 | Day 20 - Yummy Pumpkin Muffins

Aubrey helped me make these muffins today and they are really yummy. Here's the link to the RECIPE.

365 | Day 19 - Is it time for bed yet?

I was just laying on Aubrey's bed while she played in her room and she put a blanket on me, got a chair to climb on to turn off the light then gave me a kiss and said "goodnight mama", closed the door and left. I wish it was my bed time and certainly wish it was hers! If you look closely you can see a reflection of her next to the 3 running around in her diaper.

365 | Day 18 - In your footsteps

Aubrey loves shoes, loves playing with them, loves wearing them and putting them on herself.
This morning I found her little shoes inside mine.

Thrift finds this week

I went to the goodwill after Aubrey's nap today and found her lots of good books. Lately she's been liking Curious George, Dora and Mickey Mouse and we found some of each and more. They were all $0.79 each. The electronic book toy was $3 and it works. It sings the songs on each page.
Then I got this sweater for $1.99 because it had a small hole in the back but because it's a knit I can fix it. I asked the cashier for a discount and he gave me $2 off - so don't be afraid to ask! The shirt was $3.99. I also got 2 wooden bracelets, a wood colour and a dusty rose/wood colour.

365 | Day 18

My iPhone saved me again. As I was driving to the thrift store I could see the beautiful sky and had to stop to take a photo.

The almost view

Not that this is an amazing view, or a good photo but this is 2 streets above us. If only that hill wasn't in our way!

365 | Day 17 - Knotty

365 | Day 16 - New Chairs

After months of using our patio chairs in our dining room (the arms didn't fit under the table!) we finally got new chairs. Even though they are just Ikea chairs, I couldn't be happier!

Hair cut

Well, I finally had the guts to cut bangs, but I'm not sure how I feel about them. I haven't gotten used to them yet. When I go back for a trim I might get them to add a few more to make them thicker.

Or I might just not go back for a trim and let them grow a bit longer so I can sweep them to the sides.

I didn't take a photo of the back (kinda hard to do yourself) but I got an inverted bob again and this time they finally did a good job and it's short enough at the back.

365 | Day 15 - Not again

Are you taking a photo of me again?? After church today.

365 Day 14 - I Spy

I took Aubrey to the Seattle Children's Museum again yesterday and bought a season pass for just her and I. It's a nice rainy day activity. We only had about 1.5 hours yesterday and we could have stayed longer. It was very busy as it was a Saturday so it was hard to play with everything. Aubrey is cooking up a storm in the little model of a Japanese house.

365 | Day 13 - Lazy Rainy Day

It was a dark, foggy, raining day (what's new!) and Jared took the car to work so we were stuck indoors. It was a lazy day of lounging and playing in our pajamas. Aubrey took my iphone and lounged on the couch watching a cartoon.

365 | Day 11 - A Crisp Winter Day

I took this on my iphone today at the park while Aubrey played. I'm happy with how well it turned out being taken on a phone!

365 | Day 10

I liked the above image best, but the moon below is clearer. I thought of putting the two together, but that would be cheating.

Thrift finds this week

I found this cute little doll sized wagon for $1.99 and this solid wooden pear for $0.99 that I love.

The main thrift store I visit = craigslist. I found this Ikea solid wood step stool for $5.

I came across a blog that posted their thrift shop finds and bargains and I loved looking through it so I thought I would keep doing the same. If it's annoying, let me know!

Hair Clip Holder

I had been wanting/needing to make something to hold all Aubrey's hair clips and finally got it done today. It was pretty simple, using some felt, ribbon, buttons and a stick.

I thought 3 ribbons would provide plenty of room, but it's already full.  I guess I can't make any more hair clips!

New couch

So much better. They colour slightly clashes with the carpet but I don't care - it's comfortable and a bit larger.

365 | Day 9 - Out for a stroll

Here goes couch #2!

We were going to get our new couch from Ikea tomorrow but last night I was on craigslist again and found the exact one (this time) that we were going to buy for less then half the price and $100 cheaper then the first one we bought. We went and checked it out today and it's sooo much more comfortable and has the same functions that we wanted.  Tomorrow Jared is helping someone moves some furniture and as they are renting a truck to to do it we are able to use it to pick up our couch as well. Timing couldn't have worked out more perfectly! Now, I'm just hoping the colour goes ok in our room...we'll have to make it work!

Too Many Posts in one Day!

But I'm excited because we are getting new bathtub tile! That doesn't sound exciting now that I've written it down, but it is. Our bathroom needs help. They had previously refinished the bathtub and tile with paint to re-coat it and the bathtub is already chipping (I'm not sure how long ago it was done) in a small spot and when we painted the walls, we taped the tile and since it was sprayed on and probably not primed, the tape peeled a bunch of it off so it looks terrible. They are replacing all the tile because the soap tray insert wasn't properly sealed and water has been getting in behind the wall for who knows how long. Jared was giving Aubrey a bath the other night and notice that one tile seemed to be sticking out, so he put his finger on it and it just fell off the wall exposing the pipes or guts beneath, no drywall was left. So now they are replacing it but not until we are out of town for a few days as we have no other bathroom. We are hoping to go to Victoria when Julianne and Mike have their baby in February and that will be the perfect amount of time for the tiler to come in and get the job done. I can't wait. I just wish they were re-sealing the bathtub too!

365 | 8 - Vigorously Fighting Plaque

Hedghog pincushion

Yes, it's a hedgehog, not a rat. It didn't turn out so well, but it really useful.

I dislike my regular tomato pincushion as it's really hard and it seems that the easiest part to put the pins in are the top since it's round, whereas this cushion is really easy to use, pins go in better and easily anywhere on it. Maybe I'll search for a better pattern and try it again.

Making Gak

I'm not sure why I thought making gak for Aubrey to play with was a good idea. I don't know why I thought she would actually touch it! She's played with play-doh so I thought it might work. It didn't. She just stared at it probably thinking "why on earth do you think I'd want to touch that gross stuff?"

And then she got really grumpy after trying to convince her it was fun, showing her photos of kids on the internet playing with it. No such luck.
Gak is like play-doh but runnier and squishier. It consists of white glue, colouring and liquid starch. I'm glad I bought the cheapest white glue I could find since I used two smaller bottles and now it's all going in the garbage without being enjoyed.

Healthy Fries!

Aubrey, like most children LOVES fries and for that reason alone she doesn't get them very often. I tried to buy the store bought kind and bake them instead of getting them deep-fried at the fast food places. Today I found these in the grocery store (probably only American, sorry). They are all natural, baked fries, except they are like cheese puffs in texture and just look like fries. There isn't any sugar, preservatives, no corn syrup and are gluten and wheat free and are low in salt. Aubrey loves them and I don't feel as bad giving them to her when she really wants some fries.

The pillows are finished

This pillow I got from this blog. I did a tone on tone with two different blues but I should have used blue or white thread on the flowers. I picked brown because it will go in our room which is blue and brown but I think a more subtle stitch would have been less crafty looking. You can puff up the flowers for a more ruffled look, or
 flatten them.

This pillow I got from this blog. The instructions are great and it's easy to make IF you are making the same size pillow as the instructions and your pillow is square, had to rip apart some seams and readjust a few things to fit it for a rectangle.

365| Day 7 - Still Sewing

I keep finding great sewing and craft projects on other blogs, especially for pillows so now I'm going to have a million pillows! I already made pillows for Aubrey's room, so can't make anymore for there, so now I'm making 2 for our bed, we'll see how they turn out. I'll also make 2 for our couch but I have to wait until we get our new couch so I can pick the right colours. (we sold our couch and will get a new one next week hopefully).

365 | Day 6 - Wishing it were Spring.

I found this simple idea to make cloth flowers. It's just 4 circles, each folded in quarters (half, and then half again) and then stitched together. Depending on how much you stitch in the center will determine how much they are allowed to fluff up. You can see the little one fluffs all the way to make a full flower. I'll post my finished pillow with these flowers on it when it's done.

365 Project

I thought I would post my daily photos here as well. One less website to have to visit every day. Here's what I've posted so far:
Day 2 - Two things I love = cameras and vintage.

Day 3 - We love orange.

Day 4 - Disappointment - someone's lost kite.

Day 5 - Instant Macro - holding a 50mm lens on your camera backwards.

Dressing Herself

Aubrey is starting to dress herself, she especially likes one pink skirt and a pair of leopard print shoes!
Yesterday she had Jared put this hat on her and then came out into the living room with the scarf on and let me take some photos of her!
