365 / Thrift Finds

I finally tried making some paper whites this week. They turned out ok but I may have to add some more green leaves to fill it up a bit. I just got tired of making them.

Thrift finds this week: I found a new jean jacket to replace Aubrey's old one she's growing out of and a new spring dress. I also found more books of course. I can't pass up on buying all of the Dr. Seuss books when I find them. I also found 2 matching throw pillow covers and they were $0.50 each! I'm liking the pale mustard yellow colour so much I even asked Jared if I could paint the orange wall the same colour. It wasn't very impressed.

Gum Wall

Last post for today - On Monday we went to the gum wall underneath Pike Place Market with some friends visiting from Victoria. Here are the photos I took on my phone:

When this (shop?) is open they have a huge gum ball machine sitting here.

365 - miss model

I tried taking photos of a dress that a friend knit for Aubrey (at my request). She had to rip out 5 times I think and finally got it finished and delivered it last weekend when they were in Seattle. It's adorable and I love it. She of course would not cooperate for photos, but it was very entertaining.
To see the rest of the photos (they are really funny) see them on my facebook album.

Visit to the Ballard Locks

We took a picnic dinner to the Ballard Locks for the first time yesterday. It's about a 5 minute drive from our place and basically there's a canal that goes between our neighbourhood (Magnolia) and Ballard that boats come and go from the ocean into Lake Union (so salt water to fresh water). The water levels are different so they have a dam and locks where boats passing through will get locked into an area that either fills with water if they are heading into the lake or decrease the water if they are heading out to the water. It was amazing to see how fast it actually fills and empties.

Here there are 3 boats in the lock while it fills so they can head to the lake.

Yesterday morning as I headed up over the hill towards the church for mom's group, this was my view of the Olympic Mountains:

And this was the view just a bit further down the road:

After mom's group she fell asleep in the car so I drove around for her nap and did some site seeing. I tried to find interesting things to take photos of from the driver's seat of my car:
not sure if this place was for real or what!

Spring?

I think it's finally spring, the flowers are starting to bloom and yesterday it was warm enough to go out without socks on! It was the first time I attempted to paint Aubrey's toenails and she did not sit very still, thus the smudges. She really likes them and think they are cute and calls them "mommy toes".

Crepes

I don't know why it's taken me so long to try and make crepes from scratch - they were so easy. I guess I was falsely intimated by them. I followed the recipe on ourbestbites.com and it was so easy and quick.
I put all the ingredients in a blender and then poured right onto the pan. I used the recipe from here.

365 - Love birds and a sign

not real love birds, just crows.

I just like this old sign near our place.

Trip to Vancouver

We had a gift certificate to stay two nights at the Fairmont Pacific Rim which is their newest hotel in Vancouver. So we went a couple days early before the wedding to stay there. We also got to stop at Andrew and Janelle's place and visit with them.

The photo above the bed is illuminated.

 View from our room.

They didn't have a cot so we pushed the two chairs together and it made a perfect bed for Aubrey.

 Daytime view from our room.

We went to visit Jared's grandma who lives across the highway from the Temple, but she wasn't feeling up for the visit so we just went and visited the Temple grounds for a bit.

Out of order 365 photos

I finally went through my photos for previous missed days and so here is one of the crazy hail we had for about 5 minutes which followed thunder and lightening.

This was our view from our hotel room in Vancouver. Aubrey thought it was pretty cool
